Flying Over Walls Abolition Study Group
(2025–2026)
While collective sessions formally convene in 2026, participants are already engaging with shared materials and readings across prison walls.
Abolition Is a Practice, Not a Theory
The Flying Over Walls Abolition Study Group is a facilitated, inside–outside political education space for system-impacted queer and trans people and our accomplices.
This study group centers abolition as a lived, relational practice rooted in survival, care, resistance, and collective imagination — shaped by people most impacted by cages, surveillance, and state violence.
What This Study Group Is
This is not an academic seminar or a one-way curriculum.
The Flying Over Walls Abolition Study Group is a shared learning space grounded in political education shaped by imprisoned and formerly imprisoned people, collective reading and reflection, and the intentional bridging of inside and outside perspectives.
The work of this group is meant to inform real organizing, not just discussion.
Who It's For
This study group is primarily for:
Incarcerated, formerly incarcerated, and system-impacted queer and trans people
Flying Over Walls participants and community members
Outside accomplices committed to abolitionist practice, not carceral reform
We prioritize access, care, and political clarity over scale.
Primary Text for the 2025–2026 Abolition Study Group

Participants inside and outside prison walls read the text in coordinated cycles, pairing each chapter with supplemental movement writings and collective reflection. For imprisoned participants, readings are mailed directly and responses are shared through letters, artwork, and questions that shape each session’s discussion.
This is not study about incarceration.
It is study with people living under its conditions, building shared analysis across separation and surveillance.
We are grateful to Haymarket Books for donating copies of Abolition. Feminism. Now., making this shared study possible across prison walls.
How This is Different
Many study groups talk about abolition.
Flying Over Walls studies abolition with the people living under its absence.
This group exists to:
Break isolation created by incarceration
Support political education inside and outside simultaneously
Build shared language and strategy across walls
Sustain long-term relationships, not one-off conversations
Why This Matters Now
As conditions inside prisons intensify — censorship expands, isolation deepens, and access to education shrinks — abolitionist political education is both more necessary and more fragile.
This study group is part of Flying Over Walls’ commitment to sustaining connection, analysis, and collective imagination even under repression.
Help Sustain This Work
This study group is made possible through community support. Funds raised help cover:
- Printing and mailing materials to people inside
- Facilitation labor
- Accessibility costs
- Program coordination and follow-up
Supporting this work means investing in abolitionist education led by those most impacted.
